What
is a "Nun chucker ????????"
As
some newer Flaming Fist members are not sure of some aspects of martial arts, I
have been ask to explain what a "Nunchaku" is ("Nun chucker"
in the above joke).
The Nunchaku (pronounced Nan-cha-koo) was
a
farming tool used in Okinawa (Okinawa is one of a series of islands near Japan).
The Nunchaku was
turned in to a weapon for defense for use against the Samurai warriors of ancient
Japan. This farming tool was originally used as a flail to beat grain out
of plants in preparation for grinding. The Nunchaku is basically
two 12 - 16 inch wooden sticks joined by a chain or rope, it is used in a
swinging fashion to strike or directly poke or club, it can also be used
to tie up and restrain.
Some
other types of Okinawan farm tools turned to
weapons were....
The
Sai (Sigh).......................... A three pronged fork with an extra long center tine,
this was used as a dibber to make holes in the ground for seeding and as a
type of pitchfork.
The
Kama (Kam-ah) .................A short handled sickle used to cut grain storks.
The
Nunchaku (Nan-cha-koo).. See above.
The
Tonfa (Ton-fah)............... Originally a forearm length of flat wood with a
short side handle used to grind grain. Now use in a modified form by law enforcement
officers as a side handle baton.
